Time to Redesign?
Does your website contain clip art or animated gif’s? Does it use the font ‘comic sans’ in any way, shape or form? Does it have a hit counter at the bottom to count how many people have visited since a particular date? If so, was that date in the 1990’s? Do you have a single background image that tiles the same image across? Has your elementary age child recently shown you a website they built in class and you’ve come to the realization that sadly, it looks better than yours? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, it may be time for a redesign.
If you aren’t getting the results you desire from your website, you may want to ponder the following:
The first questions to ask yourself are, “does my site have a clear call to action? Does my call to action convert users into leads/customers?”
Next, check out the text on your website; is it too text heavy? Are your important points/objectives buried within massive blocks of content that readers do not want to take the time to dig for? Is your contact information clear and apparent?
Another road block that stands between your users and a successful website is confusing navigation. Do you have several levels of dropdown menus?
The next question for consideration is load time. Does your website take a long time to load? If so, this could be a key indicator as to why your website is not generating the customers and leads you would like it to. If your website takes more than three seconds to load, it would be safe to say that people are more than likely leaving before it loads and you’ve lost a potential customer.
Additionally, you may not be achieving the results you desire from your current website because the look and feel no longer matches your company’s voice/objectives and you may also no longer be targeting the correct audience. In this same realm of outdatedness, take a look to see if your services, products and/or imagery are up to date. Are you listing products that are discontinued or no longer sold by your organization?
Does your website contain features or functions that are no longer in use? For example, do you have a login button that doesn’t direct to anything? Do you have a ‘Like us on Facebook’ button but aren’t updating your Facebook page enough to send your visitors there via your website? Do you have a search box that doesn’t return any results or gives users an error when they attempt to search? If you’ve answered yes to any of the questions thus far, you may be a perfect candidate for a redesign.
Is your website responsive/mobile friendly? The percentage of online traffic from mobile devices is increasing daily. If your website isn’t prepared to handle the traffic, your business could suffer greatly because of it. If your website is even the slightest bit difficult to navigate on a mobile phone, it’s time to redesign.
Let’s get analytical now. Are users navigating beyond your home page? If you have Google Analytics running on your site you can easily see what your users are doing when they arrive to your website. If people are simply coming to your site, looking for a few seconds and then leaving—this may be your sign that a redesign is on the horizon for your website. If you don’t have Google Analytics, give our SEO guru Steve a call today and he’ll be more than happy to discuss your options with you!
Now that you’ve examined your website, it’s time to take a look at the websites that belong to your competitors. Are they better than yours? Do they rank higher in search engines? Do they load faster? Are their pictures sharper than yours? These are all factors for consideration when analyzing how you stack up to your competition on the World Wide Web.
Now that you’ve taken the time to read this, it’s time to visit your website and give it a thorough examination. If you find yourself answering yes to one or more of the questions asked in this article, consider giving us a call today to see what your options are for a redesign-we’ll be more than happy to discuss them with you.
